FAQs

We are honored that you are interested in learning more about DLA. If you have any further questions we look forward to communicating with you to answer these and encourage you in the application process. We welcome you to begin your application online today. The following information and steps will guide you through the process.

1. How much does it Cost?

DLA MISSIONAL Track costs about $100 a month totaling $1,100 for the duration of the 11-months. However, this does not include room or board. None of your tuition is tax deductable.

DLA LEADERSHIP Track costs about $536 a month totaling $5,900 for the duration of the 11-months. Only the mission trip is tax deductable, the rest of their tuition is NOT tax-deductible because we are not an accredited institution. The first $1,500 of tuition received will go towards your student’s mission account. Only the $1,500 can be considered a tax write off. Tuition includes: housing, meals, books, and all other program related expenses. Compared to a year of college, DLA is very inexpensive and really gives young people skills to make the most of their college, work, and future ministry experiences.

2. Can parents come visit while in DLA?

We invite parents to be involved in what God is doing with students during their year at DLA. We welcome you to visit any time and take part in their year of transformation.

3. If my student takes a year before going to college, is that okay?

We recognize your concerns; the time a student spends at DLA will not only prepare them for the future through personal development, but they will have a clear vision for the calling God has for them. They will walk into college with purpose and direction as opposed to changing majors multiple times.

4. What is an accountability group?

An accountability group consists of 3-6 members of the same sex with a second year, CORE leader. CORE leads the discipleship of this group and is available to encourage the student in their group to pursue development and growth.

5. How many students attend DLA?

DLA is home to more than 125 students between the MISSIONAL and LEADERSHIP Tracks.

6. Why are there rules like “no dating”?

The structure of DLA is designed to create an atmosphere of radical growth. All of the rules and structures are established with this purpose in mind and are intended to help each student develop into a leader in passionate pursuit of God. Some of the rules, such as “no dating,” are guidelines set up to help first year students focus completely on God and avoid distractions in their pursuit of growth.

7. What is DLA’s belief about the Bible?

New Life Church and DLA believe the Bible to be the inspired, only infallible, authoritative Word of God. We believe that there is one God eternally existent in three persons: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, and in His personal return in power and glory. We believe in the resurrection of the saved to eternal life, and the everlasting punishment of those who have rejected God's forgiveness in His Son. We strive to achieve greater unity in all that we do within the Body of Christ.

8. Is DLA accredited?

DLA is not an accredited institution. However, through a partnership with The King’s University and Seminary, graduates of the LEADERSHIP Track are able to receive up to 45 credit hours toward their college degree consisting of 190 hours with The King’s College.

9. How often can students go home?

We will have designated weekends for students to travel home for vacation if they desire to do so. Please schedule any and all vacation plans around this weekend. Students may take time off for special circumstances (a death in the family, serious illness, or a wedding) which should be planned and cleared with a staff member in advance where applicable.

10. Can my student have a job outside of DLA?

It is required for all MISSIONAL Track students to be either working, going to school or both full-time.

It is NOT permitted for DLA Leadership Track students to have a job. The Leadership Track is extremely focused and demanding. We want students to gain all they can from their experience. Students can, however, pick up small jobs on your time off if you would like (babysitting for a night, mowing someone’s lawn, etc.) Nevertheless, these cannot interfere with any of their commitment as a DLA student.
